Derek Martin
Radio

Radio Foreword
Having performed in Radio early on in his career, exact details of the work is not available to us. Therefore we have asked Mr. Martin to provide us with answers to a series of prepared questions.

What are the major differences between working on a television or film production and a radio production ?
"The major difference between film and television when compared to radio is that there are no cameras, lights, sets or props of any kind. It is just the actors, the scripts and microphones. The director and producer sit in a seperate control room behind a large glass window through which they signal to you."

How confusing did you find this at first ?
"The one thing I found strange about working in Radio was that you do nothing except read the script. Everything else is done for you, including things you normally take for granted such as walking, opening and closing doors and even sneezing."

Which medium do you prefer Television or Radio ?
"Having worked more in Television I would choose it over Radio. However I would like to broadcast a lot more."

Did you enjoy your experience in Radio ?
"Yes, I most definately enjoyed working in Radio, largely because of the difference when compared to other mediums."

Would you like to return to Radio work in the future ?
"Again yes, I feel very comfortable when working in Radio and because of that I would like to return to working in it. I also could play a variety of different characters because what you look like doesn't come into casting in any way."
